Strict Rules Can Affect Your International Shipping
C-TPAT stands for Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism, and it provides strict rules for international shippers. Per the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) C-TPAT program, international shippers transporting cargo into the U.S. are required to use high security seals. Those that don’t use high security seals risk the chance that their shipment will never meet its destination.
The seal manufacturer’s production facilities are ISO 9001:2000 compliant.- The seal manufacturer complies with ISO/PAS 17712:2006, Annex A, Seal Manufacturers’ Best Practices.
- The seal manufacturer submits an ISO/IEC 17025:2005-Accredited Lab Test Report from an independent laboratory for each cross-border high security seal.
To qualify, these seals must have more than just the “H” designating them as high security. They must pass strict ISO 17712 guidelines that require them to undergo tensile, shear, bending and impact resistance tests set forth
by government, industry and association technical committees. Your C-TPAT seal manufacturer must also consistently meet three ISO process, quality and product performance requirements:
If audited, shippers are required by C-TPAT to verify the seal qualifications, manufacturer compliance and independent test lab certification. To make this process as smooth as possible, we recommend keeping the following documents on file: the three ISO process, quality and product performance requirements; and a copy of the independent test lab’s ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accreditation certificate, which stipulates that the lab is certified to perform the physical performance tests outlined in ISO 17712.
